Cyclone IV FPGAs: Lowest Cost, Lowest Power, Integrated Transceivers

Cyclone IV FPGAs bring an unprecedented combination of low power, high functionality, and low cost to high-volume, power- and cost-sensitive applications. Extending the Cyclone family’s leadership in providing the industry’s lowest cost, lowest power FPGAs, the new Cyclone IV family also includes integrated transceivers.

Built on an optimized low-power process, the Cyclone IV family’s two variants are Cyclone IV GX FPGAs with integrated 3.125-Gbps transceivers and Cyclone IV E FPGAs, which are ideal for a wide spectrum of general logic applications.

Lowest Cost

  • Cyclone IV FPGAs require only two power supplies, saving system designers time, board space, and costs with a substantially simplified power distribution network for transceiver applications.
  • Not all low-cost transceivers are created equally. The Cyclone IV GX FPGA was specifically designed to allow implementation of multiple protocols while fully utilizing all available transceiver resources. The device also allows independent receive and transmit frequencies. With the device’s flexible clocking structure, you can keep your design in a smaller and lower cost device.

Lowest Power

  • For non-transceiver applications, the Cyclone IV E FPGA extends the low-power leadership of its predecessor, with a lower core voltage and 25 percent lower total power than Cyclone III FPGAs.
  • For transceiver applications, Cyclone IV GX FPGAs consume up to 30 percent less total system power compared to Cyclone III FPGAs with external transceivers.
