“The Stratix II family is a testament to Altera's commitment to invest significantly in R&D. Speed and density improvements with new FPGA products are always expected, but the increases in the Stratix II family are above my expectations.
First, the architectural innovations in Stratix II will give me an additional boost in usable gates. For example, the rounding feature in the DSP blocks enables me to use fewer logic resources for the imaging functions in our printer products. Also, the added flexibility in the Stratix II PLL circuits expands their usefulness, allowing me to reduce or eliminate the need to allocate logic resources for these functions. With continued support for 3.3-V I/O and the ability to drive 5.0-V TTL, I can avoid the additional cost and complexity of external components to shift voltage levels.
These and other features provided by the Stratix II family will keep Altera at the top of my FPGA list. As our customers demand more features and faster products, I think the Stratix II family will help us meet or exceed those expectations while keeping our development and product costs in check.”

“We have received our first Stratix II EP2S130 and EP2S60 devices, and will be incorporating them into our next-generation video test equipment. The extra logic capacity, higher performance, and DSP blocks in Stratix II devices are a great fit for implementing the high-performance signal processing functions that our products deliver.”

"I have developed programmable logic device designs for the last decade. During that time, I’ve used tools from both Xilinx and Altera.
A customer recently contracted our services to develop a PCI-X board, insisting that I use Xilinx Virtex-II devices. I quickly did a cost comparison of the Xilinx solution with Altera’s Stratix II devices, which also met the customer’s needs, and determined that the Altera solution was far less expensive. For the first manufacturing run of 100 boards, the Altera solution was close to half a million dollars lower in cost than the Xilinx solution.
When a design opportunity arises, I look at offerings from both Altera and Xilinx to find the best fit. I evaluate device functionality, time-to-market (as reflected by tools), and cost of the completed device design. I have never found a case where the Xilinx offering would have been a better choice over the Altera solution. There is just no comparison."

"I have used devices from both Altera and Xilinx, and Altera's Quartus II is the most complete and well-integrated tool for developing programmable logic designs I have ever experienced. Its powerful integrated synthesis feature is a great asset in getting designs done quickly and efficiently. I have most recently used Quartus II to develop Stratix II and Cyclone designs for the High Dynamic Range (HDR) display. Stratix II FPGAs deliver the high-performance digital signal processing functions needed to produce the most crisp and detailed visuals, and Cyclone series FPGAs provide the lowest cost, broadening the appeal of this leading-edge display technology."

“We require the highest level of integration for the development of our wireless digital transmission products. Altera’s Stratix II family includes the largest FPGAs available in the market, and the family architecture offers an excellent mix of DSP and memory resources. We look forward to leveraging these benefits using the EP2S130 devices we have received.”

“The Stratix II architecture is a very innovative architecture. Performance is great, and there are a number of architectural features that support high density, as well as the ability to spend area on your critical paths to meet your timing. We haven’t seen architectural innovations like this recently, and it's like a breath of fresh air for us to have this new architecture to work with."

“The DSP blocks in Stratix FPGAs provided the right combination of features, performance and flexibility for designing our products for the video security, surveillance, and imaging markets. By offering more than four times the number of DSP blocks in Stratix II FPGAs compared to the first Stratix family, Altera provides a very compelling product to us.”

"The Stratix II family offers designers superior performance and flexibility. Its new adaptive logic module functionality allows a designer to optimize designs either for logic efficiency or performance, effectively offering the best of both worlds. Mentor has worked closely with Altera to ensure that Mentor's Precision Synthesis FPGA design environment takes full advantage of ALM functionality and other hardware architecture improvements."
