The Applications Business Group (ABG) focuses on end (or product) markets. It is composed of four groups: the Communications Business Group; the Computer, Consumer and Industrial Business Group; the Intellectual Property Business Unit (IPBU), and Technical Services. These groups were formed to allow Altera to focus on its traditional areas of strength in the communications market while also creating new opportunities in new markets.
Communications Business Group
- Networking Business Unit
- Access/Transmission Business Unit
- Wireless Business Unit
Computer, Consumer & Industrial Business Group
These groups provide solutions to our customers that address their growing systems needs, and enhance their unique market position. Altera sees great benefits in aligning our day-to-day business to the long-term strategies of our current and future customers within these end markets.
- Digital Consumer Business Unit
- Computer (Computing and Storage) Business Unit
- Industrial & Automotive Business Unit
Intellectual Property Business Unit
The IPBU provides a portfolio of complete intellectual property (IP) solutions. The group's strategy also directs new core development towards high-growth markets. This business unit is chartered with developing, selling, and supporting Altera's portfolio of megafunctions, or high-quality "building blocks", that customers use in their systems instead of creating complete designs "from scratch".
Member of this team work either with the in-house MegaCore® group that focuses on key design areas such as PCI, digital signal processing (DSP), and communications, or with the Altera Megafunction Partners ProgramSM to create megafunctions jointly with independent developers.
Technical Services
The Technical Services group is made up of Customer Applications Engineering and the Altera Consultants Alliance Program (ACAP) and Certified Developer Center (CDC) partner programs.
Technical Services provide a strategic advantage to Altera by providing customers and channel partners with proactive and reactive in-field and in-factory technical support and training. The Technical Services group enables a network of third-party design services providers to accelerate Altera's success in the market through partner programs, and provides Altera customers with a low-cost, high-volume production solution for high-density programmable logic devices (PLDs). Technical Services also maximizes Altera's high-density PLD design wins by maintaining a competitive edge over other vendors in attracting and keeping customers that pursue a high-volume, low-cost production strategy.
