Product, Test & Technology

Product Engineering

Altera uses sophisticated tools to verify functionality and characterize logic devices prior to customer delivery. Product Engineering performs extensive process development and yield enhancement to turn engineering prototypes into high-volume winners. Key products and services include device characterization, test software development, circuit prototype analysis, physical failure analysis, and process yield improvement. Product engineers need a wide range of technical skills, from software to leading-edge device physics.

Test Development Engineering

Test Development Engineering works closely with the integrated circuit (IC) design team to identify and resolve testability prior to a new design's completion. Circuit design and software development engineers design advanced methodologies and test circuits for our next-generation devices. Key products and services include defining cutting-edge test strategies, generating test patterns, and executing full-chip circuit simulations throughout the circuit design development process. Engineers address test challenges over a wide variety of disciplines, including analog phase-locked loop (PLL) circuits, microprocessors, high-speed serial data communications, and complex memory structures.

Process Technology Development

Device Engineering provides the technical interface to Altera's wafer suppliers. The department is the process owner, so engineers in this department design test structures to monitor the leading processes, provide design rules and simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) models to the IC Design Engineering group, and drive the sort yield ramp on the newer technologies or maintain the sort yield on mature product lines. The Technology Failure Analysis group analyzes potential failures on all Altera products at the wafer and package levels. These engineers use leading edge tools and methodology of failure analysis.
