What do you do at Altera?
I am a Senior Financial Analyst supporting the Applications Business Groups (ABGs). I work on the monthly financials (forecast and close), yearly budgets, and various financial analyses pertaining to the ABGs.
What qualifications did you need for your job?
I needed the following:
- Background in finance
- Communications skills—I work with many people in different departments, so it is important to work well with others, and communicate what I need and what I can do for them
- Problem-solving skills—Every day, I resolve new issues, so I need to figure out what needs to be done and how to do it
- Reliability—Some tasks, such as monthly forecasting and quarterly closes, need to be done by a certain day, so I need to be able to meet those deadlines
What is your favorite thing about working at Altera?
My favorite thing about working at Altera is the people. Everyone seems enthusiastic about his or her work, and that makes it fun.
What is most challenging about your job?
My job requires getting feedback constantly from others, which is challenging because everybody is busy. It makes it hard to schedule meetings and follow up on questions and issues.
Why did you choose Altera?
I didn't want to work for a huge company, where your contributions go unnoticed, or a very small company, where you are overwhelmed and unable to learn. I think Altera was just the right fit. I also came here because of the New College Grad (NCG) Rotation Program, from which I gained a lot of valuable experience.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy planning and taking vacations; I have gone to Europe, Australia, Mexico, and Hawaii. I also love sweets, and like baking different things to satisfy my sweet tooth.
