Altera Receives Prestigious ACE Award as a Result of its Innovation, Technology Leadership and Revenue Growth
San Jose, Calif., May 5, 2011 — Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced it was selected by EE Times as the 2010 Company of the Year. Altera received the prestigious award at EE Times' Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards ceremony held at the Embedded Systems Conference – Silicon Valley on May 3, 2011. The ACE Company of the Year Award honors the company that exhibits the highest degree of professionalism, staff development and retention, customer focus, technical excellence and growth.
The rising costs of semiconductor design continue to favor programmable products and Altera's favorable earnings results are driven largely by the success of its 65-nm and 40-nm FPGAs, which continue to replace ASICs and ASSPs at an unprecedented pace. Altera saw its revenues increase 64 percent to nearly $2 billion in 2010 versus the previous year, and the company's growth outpaced the semiconductor industry.
Altera achieved several technological milestones in 2010 that were significant innovations in the industry. In its next-generation 28-nm Stratix® V FPGA family, it included Embedded HardCopy® Blocks, variable-precision DSP, and embedded 28-Gbps transceivers. The company also announced Qsys, the system-integration tool that delivers the industry's first FPGA-optimized network-on-chip-based interconnect.
Winning EE Times' ACE Company of the Year Award comes on the heels of Altera being named the best financially managed semiconductor company by the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) in December 2010.
The EE Times ACE Awards celebrate the creators of technology who demonstrate leadership and innovation in the global industry and shape the world in which we live. EE Times ACE Award finalists are nominated by an editorial panel. Award winners are determined by a panel of judges consisting of leading voices in academia, industry and Wall Street executives.
