Altera Upgrade to MAX+PLUS II Enhances Support for Programmable Logic Device Families
- Increases MAX® 7000AE Performance Up To 30 Percent
- Debuts E+MAX Development Software for MAX 3000 and
MAX 7000 Families
San Jose, Calif., December 13, 1999-- Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced the availability of version 9.4 of its industry leading MAX+PLUS® II programmable logic development software. Optimized modeling and improved fitting algorithms featured in the MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 software provide a significant performance increase for the
MAX® 7000AE device family. In conjunction with the upgrade of MAX+PLUS II, Altera is releasing the E+MAX development software package, a full-feature tool that includes VHDL and Verilog HDL synthesis for the MAX 7000 and MAX 3000 device families.

Performance Improvement
MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 features optimized modeling and improved fitting algorithms. The increased accuracy of this optimized modeling that highlights process improvements, combined with improved software processing, results in MAX 7000AE device performance improvements of up to 30 percent.
Free Development Software
With the introduction of MAX+PLUS II version 9.4, Altera is also announcing E+MAX development software package for Altera's MAX 7000A and MAX 3000 device families. The E+MAX development software has a host of advanced design features, including VHDL and Verilog HDL synthesis, schematic design entry, timing and functional simulation, and static timing analysis. Customers can download the E+MAX development software free of charge from http://www.altera.com. Customers can also install the E+MAX software from either a MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 CD-ROM, or the Altera Digital Library which will be released
in Q1, 2000.
Device Support
MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 provides full support for the complete FLEX® 10KE device family, including PLL versions. The updated version also incorporates support for FLEX 6000 devices in three FineLine BGA packages, and for MAX 7000B I/O standards including GTL+, SSTL 2, and SSTL 3. Version 9.4 also features an enhanced Jam STAPL Byte-Code Composer and Player that supports both Jam STAPL Byte Code (JBC) version 1.0 and JBC version 2.0.
Availability & Pricing
The MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 design software will ship to all Altera customers on active subscription and maintenance by the end of December, 1999. Altera's software subscription program simplifies the process of obtaining Altera development tools by consolidating all software products and maintenance charges into one annual subscription payment. For $2000 (single-user license), an annual subscription will entitle a customer to receive Altera's MAX+PLUS II and Quartus development tools, including ongoing support for the latest Altera PLDs, new software features, performance enhancements, and on-line documentation.
