Altera Reschedules Monthly Update

San Jose, Calif., August 30, 2000--Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced that it is moving forward the date of the company's regular monthly update to August 31, 2000 from the previously announced date of September 5, 2000. As a result of current travel schedules, management will not be available as originally planned on the September date.

The update will be posted on the company's web site (www.altera.com) after the market closes on August 31 and will be available for review through the close of business on September 5. In addition, the monthly update may be accessed through the company's investor hotline at (408) 544-7707. This announcement is intended to ensure that the investing public is fully aware of the availability of this update and is made in the spirit of the Securities and Exchange Commission's recently promulgated but not yet effective Regulation FD.
