Altera Announces Minority Investment in C Level Design, Inc.

San Jose, Calif., June 5, 2000--Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) announced today the completion of a minority investment in C Level Design, Inc., a system-level design automation (SLDA) company. Concurrently with this investment, Tim Southgate, Altera vice president of software engineering, will take a seat on C Level Design's technical advisory board to provide insight into the design tool flow for system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs.

"There is little doubt that system-level design will become the next major paradigm shift in electronic design, particularly for SOPC designs," said Robert K. Beachler, Altera senior director of strategic marketing. "C Level Design and Altera share the same vision of reducing the design cycle for these high density designs, and will be working together to make the promise of C-based design a reality for engineers."

"Programmable logic must be at the forefront in the development of EDA tools," said Dan Skilken, president and CEO of C Level Design, "We welcome Altera's investment and years of experience to assist us in creating better solutions for the SOPC design community."

This investment is part of Altera's ongoing business development strategy to foster R&D of new EDA tools and intellectual property that provide reduced design cycles, increased system performance, and lower cost solutions for system designers.

About C Level Design

C Level Design, Inc. was founded in 1997 to develop and market system-level design automation software products for electrical engineers. C Level Design's tools dramatically reduce the time it takes to move from algorithm and system specification to hardware implementation. The company's products enable engineers to design and verify systems at the C and C++ level for higher performance and productivity, and then automatically compile their designs to HDL code that is compatible with industry standard synthesis tools from Synopsys, Cadence, and Mentor Graphics.
