Hugh Durdan to Drive Altera Technical and Design Services
San Jose, Calif., August 7, 2001--Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced that Hugh Durdan has joined Altera as vice president of technical services. Durdan will spearhead company efforts to provide customers with world-class design engineering services and support as they leverage the power of system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) solutions. The newly created organization will provide design services through Northwest Logic, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Altera and partner services via the Altera Consultant Alliances Program (ACAP®) and Certified Design Center (CDC), as well as technical support for approximately 14,000 customers worldwide through Altera's Application Engineering Department. Durdan will report to Jordan Plofsky, senior vice president of vertical markets and embedded processor products.

Durdan comes to Altera with over 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. Most recently, he spent three and a half years at LSI Logic Corporation as vice president and general manager of the consumer and computer products divisions. Prior to LSI Logic, he held a variety of management and engineering positions at Mylex, a RAID and SCSI host adapter company and at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he served for 17 years. Durdan holds a BSCE degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
