Robert Finocchio, Jr. Joins Altera's Board of Directors
San Jose, Calif., January 14, 2002 -- Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced the addition of Robert Finocchio, Jr. to the company's board of directors. Finocchio brings to Altera over 20 years of management experience in the networking and enterprise software industries.

Finocchio is currently a private investor and a dean's executive professor at Santa Clara University, Leavey School of Business. From 1997 to 1999, he served as chairman, CEO and president of Informix Corporation, now a part of IBM Corporation (NYSE:IBM). Prior to Informix, Finocchio was the president of 3Com Systems (Nasdaq: COMS). His career includes 10 years at ROLM Corporation where he held various senior management positions in sales, marketing, service and finance.
