Altera's Quartus II Design Software Now Even Easier to Use

New Version of Quartus II Design Software Simplifies SOPC Design Process With User-Friendly Design Environment

San Jose, Calif., December 9, 2002—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced version 2.2 of the Quartus®  II design software, featuring a redesigned GUI interface that simplifies system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) design. Quartus II version 2.2 software users can also incrementally route new or additional nodes to the SignalTap® II embedded logic analyzer without performing a full design compilation, resulting in shorter design verification iterations. Customers who upgrade to the newest version of the Quartus II design software also have access to a new push-button optimization feature that increases Stratix™, Stratix GX, and Cyclone™ device design performance as much as 20 percent.

"With this latest version of the Quartus II software, Altera continues to provide customers with design technologies that are easy to use and deliver optimal performance," said Peter Woo, director of software marketing at Altera. "Based on extensive user feedback and usability testing, the redesigned user interface complements innovative push-button design optimization features that allow customers to focus their design time on differentiating their products."

Redesigned GUI Interface

The redesigned user interface in version 2.2 of the Quartus II design software simplifies the design process by giving designers an intuitive and user-friendly design experience built on the following new features:

  • Redesigned and Reorganized Menus—The new GUI interface executes design assignments and settings from a single assignments menu, simplifying project and design management.

  • New Spreadsheet Assignment Editor—Featuring a new assignment editor for Stratix, Stratix GX, and Cyclone device designs, the Quartus II version 2.2 design software spreadsheet editing interface is integrated with a powerful design database for searching, viewing, and making design assignments.

  • Unified Memory Implementation Interface for All Device Families—In addition to supporting memory structures inferred in VHDL and Verilog HDL code, Quartus II version 2.2 customers can configure all memory configurations and device memory resources from a single, unified memory compiler interface.

  • Routing Congestion Floorplan View—Quartus II version 2.2 customers can maximize design performance with a new timing closure floorplan editor. The floorplan editor includes a new routing congestion floorplan view that can be used with the LogicLock™ block-based design methodology.

Quartus II version 2.2 software provides customers with the ability to preserve design hierarchy in the simulation netlist output files, making it easier for users to debug and fix design problems found using third-party HDL simulation tools. This feature also makes it possible to reuse behavioral testbenches for gate-level simulations. More technical information about the Quartus II version 2.2 software is available at www.altera.com/products/software/products/quartus2/qts-index.html.

Pricing and Availability

Quartus II version 2.2 software is now shipping to all customers with an active software subscription. Altera's software subscription program simplifies the process of obtaining Altera design software by consolidating all software products and maintenance charges into one annual subscription payment. The annual subscription for the Altera design software is $2,000 for a node-locked PC license, which includes full-featured Quartus II and MAX+PLUS® II design software, SOPC Builder system generation and integration software, OEM synthesis tools from Mentor Graphics, OEM simulation tools from Model Technology, and 12 months of software upgrades. The Quartus II design software supports major operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 98, Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux, and HP-UX. New or existing customers may obtain a software subscription online on the Altera web site, www.altera.com, or from Altera distributors worldwide.
