City of San José and Mayor Ron Gonzales Honor Altera for Twenty Years of Innovation
Mayor Proclaims City-Wide "Altera Day" for Company That Put "Innovation" on the Map
San Jose, Calif., June 23, 2003—Celebrating the company's twentieth anniversary, San José Mayor Ron Gonzales honored Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) by proclaiming Monday, June 23rd, 2003 as "Altera Day." The mayor presented the proclamation in person to Altera CEO John Daane in front of over 1100 employees celebrating at the chipmaker's San José headquarters on Friday, June 20th.
"Altera has been a great company for San José and Silicon Valley over its past two decades of success," said Gonzales. "Through steady growth that comes from its commitment to innovation and dedication to our community, Altera has become a model for technology businesses that we are proud to have in San José."
Altera moved into its current 500,000-square foot San José campus off North First Street in 1997, after occupying offices in other parts of San José. Just prior to the completion of its new headquarters, the street on which it is located was renamed Innovation Drive to reflect the company's core competency. Its focus on research and development and subsequent technology innovation has enabled the company's consistent growth, withstanding the cyclical nature of the semiconductor industry.
The programmable technology Altera invented in 1983 today drives many of the applications that enable our digital lifestyle-such as network computing, mobile communications, and digital entertainment. The company today has approximately 2,000 employees around the globe and serves over 14,000 customers.
