Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) will demonstrate the industry’s leading programmable-logic based solutions for the broadcast and digital consumer market at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) later this week in Amsterdam.
The demonstrations will include the only FPGA-based system-ready solution for transporting and processing standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) video over a serial digital interface (SDI). Based on Stratix™ GX devices and developed in close cooperation with leading broadcast equipment developers, the solution provides the best single-chip alternative to application-specific standard product (ASSP)-based multi-chip solutions. Altera’s SD/HD-SDI solution delivers higher integration than ASSP-based multi-chip implementations, lowering costs and simplifying product development. The solution has also been successfully tested in real SDI system environments with requirements beyond the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineering (SMPTE) SDI specification.
These and other features of Altera’s SDI solution will be demonstrated at IBC 2003, including:
- Real-time video processing at HD data rates (1.485 Gbps and 1.485/1.001 Gbps) and SD data rates (270 Mbps) – enabled by Stratix GX DSP blocks and MRAM memory blocks for raster scan-to-block conversion
- Status reporting and control via Nios® embedded processor – the industry’s most popular soft-core processor
- Video interface to external DDR, supporting frame capture and replay
Altera’s SDI solution will be demonstrated using video test equipment from Tektronix, the market leader in test, measurement, and monitoring, and a commercial LCD TV display powered by Altera Cyclone™ devices. Other demonstrations at Altera’s IBC 2003 booth will include:
