Altera Stratix FPGAs Named EDN's 2002 Innovation of the Year Winner

Altera's High-Performance Stratix FPGAs Beat Competition

San Jose, Calif., April 24, 2003 -- Selected from hundreds of candidates, Altera Corporation's (NASDAQ: ALTR) StratixSM FPGAs were named Digital IC of the Year at EDN's 2002 Innovation of the Year competition. Altera was one of three semi-finalists, which included Xilinx's Virtex-II Pro FPGAs and Fujitsu's MirrorFlash flash memory. Stratix devices are the industry's only production qualified high-density FPGA manufactured on an all-copper, 0.13-micron process.

"The EDN Innovation and Innovator of the Year Award highlight the forces, products, and people that drive our industry. The winning products represent clear and significant innovation and excellence in a very competitive environment," said Bill Schweber, executive editor at EDN.

These awards, which honor outstanding engineering products in the electronics industry, are the result of a pre-selection by a panel of EDN's technical editors and online voting by EDN's worldwide readers. Altera's victory is further proof of the Stratix FPGA design wins momentum and validates the success of Altera's customer-driven product strategy.

"This award is extremely valuable to Altera because EDN's readers are our customers," said Tim Colleran, Altera's vice president of product marketing. "Our customers clearly appreciate our excellent and reliable execution when introducing new products."

Winners of the 2002 Innovation of the Year Awards were announced at EDN's Innovation awards ceremony on April 22 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco and will appear in the May 1, 2003 issue of EDN and on www.edn.com.
