Altera HardCopy Structured ASIC Named EDN’s 2003 Innovation of the Year Winner

San Jose, Calif., March 31, 2004—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that its HardCopy® Stratix®  structured ASIC was named EDN’s 2003 Innovation of the Year winner in the digital IC category.  Honored at the annual EDN Innovation Awards this week, Altera’s second straight victory in this category reaffirms the company’s ongoing success in delivering innovative solutions to its customers.  It also highlights the company’s leadership in the rapidly emerging structured ASIC market.  Altera received the same award in 2002 for its Stratix family of FPGA devices.

Altera’s HardCopy structured ASIC was one of three semi-finalists, which included Fujitsu’s AccelArray structured ASICs and M-Systems’ DiskOnChip G3 devices.  HardCopy devices are unique in the industry—offering the only, truly seamless migration path from FPGAs to low cost structured ASICs.

These awards, which honor outstanding products in the electronics industry, are the result of a pre-selection from hundreds of nominees by a panel of EDN’s technical editors and online voting by EDN’s worldwide readers.  “Winning this award provides a clear validation of the benefits we offer our customers through our HardCopy structured ASIC program.  These include reducing their development costs and risks, while helping them accelerate the time to market of their new products,” said Alain Bismuth, Altera’s vice president of the HardCopy product group.  “Our commitment to continuous innovation and working closely with our customers in the definition stage of our products has proven to be a mutually beneficial strategy.”

Winners of the 2003 Innovation of the Year Awards were announced at EDN’s Innovation awards ceremony on Mar. 29 at the W Hotel in San Francisco and will appear in the Apr. 15, 2004 issue of EDN and on www.edn.com.
