***MEDIA ALERT***

Altera-Powered Gigabit Ethernet-over-SONET, OBSAI, ATCA, and PCI Express Applications to be Showcased at Intel Developer Forum

What:

Demonstrations of several leading-edge communications technologies powered by Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) products will be highlighted at the Intel Developer Forum this week.  Altera’s booth will feature Stratix™ devices acting as the interface between an Intel IXF1110 Gigabit Ethernet media access controller (MAC) and an Intel IXF18101 synchronous optical network (SONET) framer, showing Gigabit Ethernet over SONET (EOS).  Altera will also present details on the industry’s first FPGA-based reference design for the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative’s (OBSAI) Reference Point 3 (RP3) interface specification.  Altera’s booth is #505.

Artesyn Technologies will be showing their ATCA AMC carrier card, which features an Altera® Cyclone™ FPGA running a Nios® processor to perform intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) functions.  IPMI is a new and valuable capability that enables telecom equipment makers and service providers to offer services to carriers that remotely monitor the health and status of their systems.  Artesyn’s booth is #727.

PCI Express demonstrations powered by Altera Stratix GX devices will be hosted by Altera partners Mentor Graphics® and PLDApplications.  PCI Express is a high-bandwidth, low-pin count, serial interconnect technology that maintains software compatibility with existing PCI infrastructure, uniquely positioning it as the logical interconnect technology for many products being developed today.  Stratix GX devices deliver a single-channel rate of 2.5 Gbps in PCI Express applications, while providing designers with design flexibility that is unattainable with ASSP-based transceiver devices.  Mentor Graphic’s booth is #633, and PLDApplications’ booth is #673.
