George Papa, Altera's senior vice president of worldwide sales, presents the 400 millionth MAX device to Aaron Dinwiddie, TTE’s director of TV development.

San Jose, Calif., July 11, 2005─Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced today that it has shipped 400 million MAX®series CPLDs with the delivery of a MAX II EPM1270 device to the world’s largest television manufacturer, TTE Corporation, a joint venture of TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Limited and Thomson S.A. With cumulative sales in excess of $4 billion, the MAX series of CPLDs has a world-class reputation for quality, usability, and cost efficiency. Altera has led the CPLD market for more than 15 years and is further strengthening its leadership position with its new MAX II family.

“MAX II devices enable us to achieve new levels of integration and cost efficiency that are not possible with CPLDs from other suppliers,” said Scott Baxter, general manager of research and development for TTE. “By enabling us to maximize the value of our DLP TVs and respond quickly to customer demands, Altera’s low-cost devices help us deliver the features that consumers want at affordable price points.”

“MAX CPLDs are being used by designers across all end markets,” said George Papa, Altera’s senior vice president of worldwide sales. “This milestone reinforces our position as the CPLD industry leader. Furthermore, the rollout of the MAX II family demonstrates Altera’s continued ability to deliver programmable technologies that meet the rigorous low-power and low-cost requirements of today’s high-performance systems.”

The MAX II family is half the cost and consumes one-tenth the power of previous MAX generations, while maintaining the same single-chip, non-volatile, and ease-of-use characteristics of the original MAX series. Due to its density and cost characteristics, the MAX II family can be used to replace less flexible and more expensive ASSPs, ASICs, and discrete devices. For more information on the Altera® MAX II device family, visit www.altera.com/max2.

All members of the MAX family are available for ordering through Altera distributors worldwide. For more information on Altera’s MAX series CPLDs, visit www.altera.com/maxcpld.
