Altera's HardCopy II Structured ASICs and MAX II CPLDs Named Ultimate Products by eeProductCenter
Company’s Structured ASICs and CPLDs Recognized by Qualified Readers for High Design Flexibility and Low Cost
San Jose, Calif., June 14, 2005—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that its HardCopy® II structured ASICs and MAX® II CPLDs were chosen as Ultimate Products by eeProductCenter magazine — part of the EE Times network. eeProductCenter editors selected up to ten of the most significant products in each of seven categories introduced during the first quarter of 2005. Qualified readers of EE Times and eeProductCenter ranked these outstanding products on "technical significance" and "likelihood of use." Both Altera® products were ranked in the top five in the logic and programmable logic category.
"The fact that a well-respected publication such as eeProductCenter recognized both HardCopy II structured ASICs and MAX II CPLDs in the top five programmable logic products of 2005 further demonstrates that Altera has taken the lead in providing customers with easy-to-use, high-performance products at the lowest cost," said Danny Biran, vice president of product and corporate marketing for Altera. In the eeProductCenter "Ultimate Products" report, eeProductCenter editor Jon Gabay deemed HardCopy II devices as "the industry’s most compelling structured ASICs." In addition, qualified readers touted HardCopy II devices as "quite impressive" and "best of both worlds for a design methodology that calls for an FPGA prototype that will become an ASIC."
Also in the report, Gabay described MAX II CPLDs as "as the industry’s lowest-cost CPLD available now," and "ideal for volume-driven, price-sensitive applications." The qualified readers’ responses acknowledged the attractive price point while one reader in particular noted that "the significance of the Altera CPLD lies in the low price-per-(Logic Element)."
