Industry Accolades Underscore Success of Altera's Customer-Driven Product Strategy

Altera’s HardCopy II, Stratix II GX and Cyclone II Programmable Solutions Recognized for Providing Customers the Ability to Innovate and be More Productive

San Jose, Calif., February 7, 2006—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that their programmable solutions were named both winners and nominees for distinguished industry awards:

  • The Altera® HardCopy® II structured ASIC design flow was named a 2006 DesignVision award winner at DesignCon from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC)
  • Altera’s Stratix® II GX FPGA family was awarded Product of the Year 2005 by analogZONE for “Best Connectivity PHY”
  • Altera’s HardCopy II structured ASIC was nominated for EDN’s 2005 Innovation of the Year award
  • EE Times named Altera’s CycloneTM II family (EP2C70 device) and video-over-IP reference design as Ultimate Product Finalists for the 2006 EE Times ACE Awards

These awards and nominations reflect Altera’s success in providing programmable solutions that were built based on valuable feedback from its customers that in turn drive their innovation and productivity.

“This recognition validates Altera’s strategy of gathering customer input during the product definition phase to determine the benefits customers desire most,” said Danny Biran, Altera’s vice president of product and corporate marketing. “These awards and nominations are extremely important in recognizing that Altera is leading the programmable logic industry in providing customers with easy-to-use, high-performance products at the lowest cost.”

Selected as a DesignVision award winner, the HardCopy II structured ASIC design flow provides customers with the flexibility to respond rapidly to changing market demands while maintaining the cost-effectiveness necessary to address customer needs.

“The DesignVision Awards recognize innovative products and services that support the work of electronic design engineers, the core audience at DesignCon. The IEC is pleased to provide this recognition to companies whose products exemplify our standard of service to the industry,” noted Dr. Barry Sullivan, DesignCon 2006 Program Director. analogZone’s Product of the Year awards showcase the products that the editors believe will be successful in the marketplace, basing their choices on a product’s strong technical merits and design innovation. analogZONE chose Stratix II GX FPGAs as “Best Connectivity PHY”.

“Altera’s configurable SerDes PHYs strike the right balance between performance, complexity and power for the high-density applications their Stratix II GX FPGA family targets. Altera’s ability to support nearly any high-speed serial interface makes them an integral part of Altera’s strategy to sell their FPGAs as system-level solutions instead of as the “glue” that designers traditionally add at the end of a design effort,” said Lee Goldberg, senior technical editor at analogZONE.

The EDN Innovation of the Year Award acknowledges unique, state-of-the-art electronics products. The winning products represent clear and significant innovation and excellence in a very competitive environment. These awards are the result of preselection by a panel of EDN’s technical editors and online voting by EDN’s worldwide readers. The 2005 Innovation Awards ceremony will take place April 3 in San Jose. Vote online for HardCopy II structured ASICs at www.edn.com/index.asp?layout=InnovationAwardsComp&year=2005&order=17.

The EE Times ACE awards acknowledge the people, companies and products that show leadership in the electronics industry. The Ultimate Product of the Year goes to the most significant product introduced in the last 12 months as determined by large-scale peer review. Finalists in each category were chosen by selected, qualified readers of EE Times and eeProductCenter on a quarterly basis via electronic balloting. The nomination of the Cyclone II family and the video-over-IP reference design as Ultimate Products in the Logic, Interface and Programmable category continues the momentum of success in Altera’s customer-driven product strategy. Awards will be presented during CMP Media’s Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley. For more information on Altera at Embedded Systems Conference, please visit www.altera.com/ESC2006.
