Altera Customers Honored With CES Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase Awards

Leading Consumer Electronics Manufacturers’ Technology Enabled Through Altera’s Programmable Solutions

Consumer Electronics Show, LAS VEGAS, January 3, 2006—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) congratulates its customers who are winners of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase Awards. LG Electronics and Roku Labs use Altera’s programmable solutions to ensure a competitive edge, including the flexibility to quickly and cost-effectively respond to changing consumer market demands. This year’s CES Innovations Award recipients are among the growing number of consumer electronic manufacturers who recognize the competitive advantages provided by Altera’s programmable solutions.

“Altera’s low-cost CPLDs allow us to deliver innovative audio electronics to customers in the shortest amount of time, which is key to success in the extremely competitive consumer market,” said Greg Garner, director of hardware engineering at Roku. “We saw time-to-market and price advantages for our SoundBridge M500, original M1000 and M2000 digital audio receivers using MAX® CPLDs. As a result, we have adopted MAX II CPLDs for our Wi-Fi Media Streaming Modules to cost-effectively bring networked music and display features to Internet radio, digital music streaming applications and other consumer products.”

“Altera’s emphasis in building strong customer bonds helps us deliver high-quality programmable solutions that meet the needs of our customers across all industries,” said Todd Scott, senior director of the broadcast and digital consumer business unit at Altera. “For consumer electronics manufacturers, this means our solutions let them compete successfully in this highly competitive market.”

Altera® programmable solutions are used in a broad range of consumer products, including digital TVs, DVD players, PDAs, digital camcorders, set-top boxes, automotive telematics systems, personal computers, gaming systems and portable media players.

“Altera's programmable solutions enable us to develop advanced display features and capabilities for our award-winning DLP TVs in the shortest amount of time,” said Scott Baxter, general manger of TV products at TTE Corporation, a joint venture of TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Limited and Thomson S.A. “Altera's low-cost products, including CycloneTM FPGAs and MAX II CPLDs, allow us to deliver industry-leading features and compete effectively in the price-sensitive consumer market.”

Many of these consumer electronic products powered by Altera programmable logic are on display throughout the CES exhibit, as shown in the table below.
