Altera Stratix II GX FPGAs Named EDN China's 2006 Innovation of the Year Winner

Hong Kong, Nov. 2, 2006—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) today announced that its Stratix® II GX FPGA family has won EDN China’s 2006 Innovation Award under the digital IC and digital logic category. Stratix II GX FPGAs are the industry’s only FPGAs providing transceiver speeds up to 6.375 Gbps on every channel.

“We are glad that Altera’s Stratix II GX FPGA family has won Best Product under the EDN China Innovation Award’s digital ICs and digital logic category,” said John Mu, Executive Publisher of EDN China. “This is the second year for the EDN China Innovation Award and the response to it among our 35,000 readers – the elite of China's electronics engineering community – has been extensive.”

The EDN Innovation Awards honor products widely accepted and used in applications throughout the electronics industry. The awards are the outcome of a pre-selection process by a panel of EDN China technical editors and online voting by EDN China readers from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2006. Altera’s Stratix II GX FPGA family was one of four semi-finalists in the category, which included Actel’s Fusion, Lattice’s SC FPGAs and Xilinx’s Virtex-5 65-nm multi-platform FPGAs. This award supports Altera’s continued commitment to delivering innovative products to its customers.

“This award is extremely important as it shows EDN China’s recognition that Altera leads the programmable logic industry in providing customers with easy-to-use FPGAs with integrated transceivers designed to deliver superior signal integrity,” said Danny Biran, Altera’s vice president of product and corporate marketing. “Clearly our strategy of engaging early with customers in our product planning process to deliver the exact transceiver-based solutions they require, on-time and errata-free, is paying off.”

Winners of the EDN China Innovation Award 2006 were announced during a ceremony today at the EDN China Innovation Conference and China Electronic Design Manager Forum. The honorees will also appear in the December issue of EDN China Innovator Supplement and on www.ednchina.com.
