Huawei Honors Altera With "Excellent Supplier" Award

Communications Equipment Leader Recognizes Altera’s Technology, Quality, Responsiveness, Delivery, Cost, Environmental Protection and Social Responsibility

San Jose, Calif., Oct. 31, 2006—Based on qualities including responsiveness, technology and cost, Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) has received the prestigious Excellent Supplier award from Huawei Technologies, Co. Ltd., a global leader in providing next-generation telecommunications networks. The award, the highest recognition Huawei gave to any programmable logic supplier in 2005, was presented to Altera CEO John Daane during a Huawei visit to Altera’s San Jose headquarters last month.

“In today’s global marketplace, the competition between companies is not about product, technology or even price, it’s about how effectively the supply chain is managed,” said Ms. Song Yanling, Huawei’s director of IC Commodity Expert Group. “Key Huawei suppliers such as Altera are highly effective in managing their supply chain and have proven their commitment to helping Huawei achieve our business objectives and technology goals.”

Huawei is the global leader in the design and production of access networking equipment known as Internet protocol digital subscriber line access multiplexers (IP DSLAMs). These networking systems receive signals from multiple-customer DSL connections and multiplex the signals on to a high-speed backbone line. According to a 2006 report by Infonetics Research, low-cost IP DSLAMs now make up approximately 45 percent of the category worldwide and are displacing ATM versions at a rate that will make IP DSLAMs substantially dominant, reaching 87 percent of the installed base by 2009.

Altera offers communications systems manufacturers key FPGA-based digital logic building blocks, allowing them to differentiate their networking, access and transmission systems that accelerate design cycles and lower development costs.

“This recognition was earned by delivering a high level of customer understanding, support and services with the intention of helping Huawei meet their business and technical goals. This includes providing our unique HardCopy® structured ASIC solution for their fixed network and transmission products and contributing our expertise to the development of their next-generation access platforms,” said Don Faria, senior vice president of Altera’s business groups. “Our customers continue to be the driving force behind every aspect of our business, from product planning all the way to customer delivery, support and service.”
