Altera Now Shipping Complete Line of RoHS-Compliant Development Kits

San Jose, Calif., October 25, 2006—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced that all development kits supporting its latest generation of FPGAs and CPLDs are compliant with the European Union's (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. Altera offers 10 RoHS-compliant development kits that support the Stratix® II, Stratix II GX and Cyclone® II FPGA families, and MAX® II CPLDs.

The RoHS directive is a globally reaching environmental mandate for the electronics industry created to reduce harmful substances in electronic equipment. Altera is fully supportive of industry efforts throughout the world to phase out the use of lead and other undesirable elements from electronic equipment materials and manufacturing processes. Altera offers more than 1200 products in lead-free packages, making it one of the most extensive lead-free product offerings in the industry. As a leading supplier of environmentally friendly programmable logic technology, Altera has shipped over 25 million programmable logic devices (PLDs) in lead-free packages since 2002.

“Altera’s comprehensive portfolio of RoHS-compliant programmable solutions offers our customers a wide range of environmentally friendly products without compromising performance or quality,” said Danny Biran, vice president of product and corporate marketing at Altera. “These offerings demonstrate our leadership in the industry and our commitment to giving our customers a competitive edge.”

Altera® development kits provide a complete, high-quality design environment for engineers that helps simplify the design process and reduce time-to-market. Development kits supply engineers with a comprehensive platform that enables accelerated creation and implementation of their designs. All Altera RoHS-compliant development kits are available with complete board design files including schematics, layout and bill of materials, allowing designers to use portions of the board design as a reference for their own designs.
