Altera FPGA Technology Provides Innovative Solution for Evolving Market Needs – Presentation June 24

Razak Mohammedali, Senior Product Marketing Engineer of New Products at Altera Corporation,  will discuss system designers’ needs for different advanced applications and how Altera® FPGA technology can meet those needs. Based on the Nios® embedded processors, designers can now customize their system and take advantage of several high-performance FPGA features such as digital signal processing (DSP) Blocks, TriMatrix™ memory, and gigabit transceiver blocks. These high-performance features enable hardware acceleration of performance critical functions that allow FPGAs to be used as coprocessors. Further system designers can shorten their system development cycle using system development tools such as a system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) builder and DSP builder offered by Altera.

Event Details

Nick Tredennick, former chief scientist at Altera and current editor of Dynamic Silicon, will deliver the keynote address, “The Rise of Reconfigurable Systems”, exploring the benefit of programmable systems in the landscape of rising costs in the technology industry. “Rising costs drive the industry toward cooperation and consolidation, toward standard products, toward post-manufacturing customization, and toward reconfigurable systems. Value is shifting from physical chips to design files that describe functions. Reconfigurable systems balance untethered systems’ requirement for efficiency with the industry’s escalating costs,” according to Mr. Tredennick.

Reconfigurable computing, also known as configurable computing, adaptive computing, and FPGA-based computing, is an emerging technology, capable of providing high computational performance on a diversity of applications. Conference attendees will learn about using reconfigurable computing platforms for the design of application-specific computer systems. This conference will take place as part of the 2003 International MultiConference in Computer Science.

 Altera Featured Technology

The latest FPGA devices from Altera such as Stratix™, Stratix™ GX, and Cyclone™ device families offer advanced system level features such as DSP blocks, TriMatrix memory, gigabit transceiver blocks, support for advanced I/O standards and protocols, soft multipliers, and Terminator™ technology. These FPGAs also support embedded processors, including the Nios embedded processor.
