Course Description
As FPGA designs become more complex, a larger part of development time is spent verifying designs. This course introduces the debug tools provided in the Quartus® II software & shows effective ways to debug an FPGA design — decreasing design development time. Estimating FPGA power consumption using the Power Play Power Analyzer & using the Simultaneous Switching Noise (SSN) Analyzer are covered first. The remainder of the day focuses on demonstrating verification tools: SignalProbe, In-System Sources & Probes, the Logic Analyzer Interface & the SignalTap® II embedded logic analyzer (ELA). Since the SignalTap II ELA has powerful features, half the course is dedicated to covering those features. Chip Planner is used to make small design changes without requiring long recompiles.At Course Completion
You will be able to:- Analyze power consumption with PowerPlay analyzer
- Analyze signal integrity issues with SSN Analyzer
- Debug designs in-system using SignalTap II embedded logic analyzer
- Quickly route internal nodes to pins using SignalProbe without a full recompilation
- Connect internal nodes to an external logic analyzer using Logic Analyzer Interface
- View & edit embedded memory contents using In-System Memory Content Editor
- Make incremental design changes with Chip Planner
Prerequisites
We recommend completing the following courses:- The Quartus II Software Design Series: Foundation (Instructor-led / Virtual Training)
- The Quartus II Software Design Series: Foundation (Online Training)
Skills Required
- Experience with PCs and the Windows operating system
- Completion of "The Quartus II Software Design Series: Foundation" course OR a working knowledge of the Quartus II software
