Course Description

This training will teach you the essentials of implementing floating point custom instructions in your NiosĀ® II processor v. 8.0 based design. This course will explain the design trade offs that you have to make in using floating point custom instructions. After taking this training, you will know how to use the built in floating point custom instructions.

At Course Completion

You will be able to:
  • Learn how to instantiate the floating point instructions
  • Understand performance tradeoffs using the floating point instructions
  • Learn ways to control the compiler in using floating point custom instructions

Prerequisites

We recommend completing the following courses:
  • Using SOPC Builder
  • Using the Nios II Processor

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of the Nios II embedded processor, SOPC Builder and the design flow
  • Some knowledge of programming in C for embedded systems
