Altera has developed tutorials and laboratory exercises for use with the DE-series boards. The laboratory material is targeted for use in a typical course on embedded systems, which is included in many Computer and Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science programs.
Altera's DE-series boards provide an excellent platform for laboratory exercises associated with courses on embedded systems. Systems based on the Nios II soft processor can be used to demonstrate key concepts in an easy-to-use development environment. To facilitate the introduction to this material, Altera has developed two example systems, called DE-series Basic Computer and DE-series Media Computer, which can be downloaded into the FPGA chip on Altera's DE-series boards. They, in conjunction with the Altera Monitor Program software, allow students to use and investigate typical features found in commercial embedded applications. These systems have been designed specifically for educational purposes.
