Quartus II Software Support for DE-Series Boards
Quartus® II software v13.0 SP1 supports all Altera University Program FPGA boards, which includes DE0, DE0-Nano, DE1, DE2, DE2-115, DE3, DE4, and DE5-Net. Although new versions of the Quartus II software will be developed and released each year by Altera, Quartus II software v13.0 SP1 will continue to be maintained and updated for the foreseeable future. Universities that are using the DE1 and/or DE2 boards should continue to use Quartus II software v13.0 SP1, as explained below.
The Quartus II software starting from v13.1 does not include support for the Cyclone® II family of FPGAs, which are used on the DE1 and DE2 boards. This is the reason why universities that are using the DE1/DE2 boards should continue to use Quartus II software v13.0 SP1. As mentioned above, Quartus II software v13.0 SP1 will continue to be provided, updated, and maintained for the foreseeable future, and will thus continue to provide full support for the DE1 and DE2 boards. (Note that the DE2-115 and DE1-SoC boards are not affected because these boards use the Cyclone IV and Cyclone V FPGA families, respectively.)
Quartus II software v14.0 will no longer be supported for 32 bit computers (Quartus II software v14.0 can only be used on 64 bit computers). In addition, Quartus II software v14.0 will no longer be supported for the Cyclone III devices (used on DE0 boards), and Stratix III devices (used on DE3 boards). DE0 and DE3 board users should continue to use Quartus II software v13.1, or earlier.
Starting with Quartus II version 13.0, the Waveform Editor tool for performing simulations can be opened from within the Quartus II software. This is accomplished by selecting “File -> New -> University Program VWF”. Test vectors created with this tool can be used in simulation of your circuits by running the ModelSim®-Altera simulation tool. The simulator can be started from within the Waveform Editor, or by using the Altera® Nativelink flow. For more information, read the simulation tutorial which is found on the Quartus II Simulator page.
Altera grants educational institutions easy access to today's leading design software and industry-standard EDA tools.
Altera's University Program offers a variety of commercial-grade CAD software for use with Altera's Development and Education boards. It includes:
