Wipro Technologies' 1,400+ member strong VLSI and System Design Group provides its customers with complete product engineering solutions in the VLSI domain and meets customers' critical time-to-market demands with design reliability, scalability, and upgradeability. These solutions include high-end ASIC development, complex FPGA and board designs, turnkey system designs, and core technology intellectual property (IP) blocks. This design group has consistently been at the leading edge of technology with their work in chip designs up to 90 nm with 8 million gates, high-end FPGAs with 7 million gates, and complex 28-layer boards. Leveraging in-depth expertise in diverse markets—such as telecom and datacom, platforms and peripherals, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, mobile and wireless devices, and industrial automation and control—Wipro has completed more than 100 projects in the last two years, ranging from new product introductions to complete ownership of a product range for some of the large telecom infrastructure providers.

Technology Expertise Description
High-Speed Interfaces 1394, prop backplane tech., XAUI, UTOPIA L2/L3, POS-L2/L3, SPI-L2/L3, CSIX, GMII/TBI, SATA, PCI, and PCI Express.
Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet Expertise in the development of 10/100/1000 half/full-duplex 802.3 MAC, PCS, 802.3x flow control, 802.3ah Ethernet over passive optical network layers such as 802.3ah OAM, 802.3ah OMP, 802.3ah DBA, 802.3ah RS, and also 802.1D/802.1P bridging, 802.1Q VLAN, IGMP snooping, complex scheduling algorithms for QoS-based packet scheduling, and complex buffer management schemes. Services Description
Hardware Design
  • Architecture to final Gerber release and prototype and low-volume manufacturing to suit customer manufacturing requirements.
  • High-speed board design, multi-layered, multi-CPU, and high-performance board design. Design expertise for boards of low to high complexity, design expertise from schematics to Gerber release, board-level simulations using standard and in-house-developed HDL models, hardware and software co-verification, functional testing of prototype boards, and design validation tests. Reduced design cycle time while exceeding quality standards for complex board designs at 28 layers and 10.3-Gbps data lines. Experience working with board dimensions up to 340 mm x 330 mm with 19 power supplies, 22,000+ connectors, 7,300+ nets, pins up to ~24,000, and up to 7,000 components.
  • Assist clients with tests for emissions (conducted and radiated), radiations (conducted and radiated), ESD, electric fast transients, steady-state power induction, lightning, surge, AC power fault, and for electrical safety requirements.
ASIC Design
  • Architecture and design to implementation, synthesis, physical design, prototype manufacturing support, packaging, and silicon testing. Extensive portfolio of design wins includes ASIC designs in 90 nm or tighter geometry, design sizes in multi-million gates and pin-counts in excess of 1,200 pins. A "pure-play design house" and has targeted designs to a range of process technologies and libraries. Tools expertise spans the tool families of Cadence, Mentor Graphics®, Synopsys, and Magma.
  • Design capabilities include architecture definition, methodology and tools setup, verification plan development and verification environment setup, register transfer level (RTL) coding in Verilog/ VHDL, deterministic, random, and regression tests, scan insertion and design for testability, synthesis, and netlist generation, gate-level simulation, floor planning and optimization, place and route, static timing analysis and timing extraction, ATPG/ test vector generation, and formal verification.
  • 150+ SoC/ASICs tape-outs performed in the last 3 years on multiple processes ranging from 0.25 µ to 65 nm targeted at multiple foundries like TSMC, UMC, SMIC, tower, and various integrated foundries. The design complexities have been as high as 14 million logic gates (46 million+ with memory).

Market Expertise Description
Wireless Communications A focus on wireless infrastructure, mobile devices, and development of network management, service management, and business management systems for service providers and OSS product vendors. Wipro is a leader in providing contract R&D services to clients in the wireless domain. We are also a leader in semiconductor IPs for the wireless market with leadership positions in WLAN and Bluetooth. Services include:
  • Development of wireless pre-paid service, mobile commerce platform development, security server development for mobile security using PKI, and development of the mobile messaging services platform.
  • System verification and validation services, test planning, test automation, test execution, function and regression testing, and functional interoperability/internetworking of various network elements for GSM/GPRS/UMTS systems.
  • Design and development of a Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) interface card for a next-generation base transceiver station. Design and development of CDMA 1x EV-DV board for CDMA networks to EV-DV air interfaces.
