Altera’s configuration devices provide ideal solutions for all Altera® FPGAs, including Stratix® and Cyclone® series FPGAs, APEX™ II, APEX 20K, APEX 20KE, APEX 20KC, Excalibur™, and Mercury™ device families. The densities of programmable logic devices (PLDs) continue to grow as demand for high-density FPGAs increases in next-generation wireless, communications, and storage systems. This explosive growth is driving the need for bigger and faster configuration devices.
Altera’s enhanced configuration devices, including the EPC4, EPC8, and EPC16 devices, boast up to 30 Mbits (with compression) of configuration memory and provide a single-device solution for high-density FPGAs. Altera's standard configuration devices (including the EPC2, EPC1, EPC1441, EPC1213, EPC1064, and EPC1064V devices), offer a cost-effective solution for lower-density FPGAs.
Serial configuration devices, ranging from 1 Mbit to 64 Mbits, serve as the perfect complement for the Cyclone II and Cyclone device families, which address high-volume, price-sensitive applications.
The feature-rich enhanced configuration devices enable remote system upgrades, provide in-system programmability (ISP), utilize unused memory for general-purpose memory tasks, and dramatically reduce configuration times. Standard configuration devices features include ISP (EPC2), MultiVolt™ I/O operation over a wide density range, small form-factor packages, and fast programming times.
