Altera now provides the Quartus® II design software for FPGA, CPLD, and structured ASIC devices as part of the Altera® Subscription Program or via download from the Altera web site as the Quartus II Web Edition software.

Quartus® II design software provides the most advanced suite of tools for system-level design, embedded software programming, FPGA and CPLD design, synthesis, place-and-route, verification, and device programming. Quartus II software supports all of Altera's latest device families. Quartus II software is included in Altera software subscriptions.
 Quartus II Web Edition software is a subset of Quartus II software that provides support for the Cyclone™ II, Cyclone, MAX® II, Stratix® II, Stratix, Excalibur™, APEX™ II, APEX 20KE, FLEX® 10KE, FLEX 10KA, FLEX 10K®, ACEX® 1K, FLEX 6000, MAX 7000B, MAX 7000AE, MAX 7000S, and MAX 3000A devices. Quartus II Web Edition software can be downloaded from the Altera web site or installed from the Quartus II Web Edition Software Suite CD-ROM.
SOPC Builder is an automated system development tool that dramatically simplifies the task of creating high-performance system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs. SOPC Builder is included as part of Quartus II Subscription Edition and Quartus II Web Edition software products.
The ModelSim®-Altera software is an Altera-specific version of the Model Technology™ ModelSim simulation software, which supports behavioral simulation and testbenches for VHDL or Verilog hardware description languages (HDLs). The ModelSim-Altera software is included with Altera software subscriptions.
The Nios® II integrated development environment (IDE) is a graphical user interface (GUI) from within which all Nios II embedded processor software development tasks can be accomplished, including editing, building, managing, and debugging embedded software programs.The Nios II IDE is included with Altera software subscriptions.
Legacy Products
The following MAX+PLUS® II software products are available for existing designs but are not recommended for new designs. Quartus II software now includes a MAX+PLUS II user interface setting that makes transitioning from MAX+PLUS II software to Quartus II software effortless.
MAX+PLUS II design software supports the Altera ACEX, FLEX, MAX, and mature programmable logic device (PLD) families and integrates with industry-standard design entry, synthesis, and verification tools. MAX+PLUS II software is available upon request to Altera software subscription customers. The new MAX II CPLD family is not supported in the MAX+PLUS II software.
MAX+PLUS II BASELINE software is a subset of MAX+PLUS II software that is targeted at the MAX 7000 and MAX 3000 devices—and mature Altera devices. The MAX+PLUS II BASELINE software can be downloaded from the Altera web site. The new MAX II device family is not supported in the MAX+PLUS II BASELINE software.
