Graphic Editor: Creating Custom Symbols

In this example, you will create and use a custom-made symbol called bnot.sym.

Create bnot.sym:

  1. In the Graphic Editor, insert and connect INPUT, NOT, and OUTPUT symbols by choosing Enter Symbol (Symbol menu). See the figure below.

    bnot.gdf

    bnot.gdf

  2. Save the file as bnot.gdf by choosing Save (File menu). Specify the project name by choosing the Project Set Project to Current File command (File menu).
  3. Choose Create Default Symbol (File menu). MAX+PLUS II creates the file bnot.sym.
  4. Open bnot.sym by choosing Edit Symbol (File menu). The Symbol Editor will appear. You can use the Symbol Editor to customize the appearance of bnot.sym.
  5. Choose Save (File menu).
Using bnot.sym:
  1. Create a new Graphic Editor file by choosing New (File menu).
  2. Insert the symbol bnot by choosing Enter Symbol (Symbol menu).
  3. Insert INPUT and OUTPUT symbols. Connect these symbols to the bnot symbol.
  4. Save the file as test.gdf by choosing Save (File menu). See Figure test.gdf below.
