SOPC Builder & Quartus II Software Support
This section documents changes related to SOPC Builder and Quartus II software.
Multi-clock domain support
In the Quartus II software version 4.2, SOPC Builder allows you to create systems containing multiple clock domains. The Nios® II processor systems can now have processor(s) and peripheral(s) operating in separate clock domains.
Component Editor
In the Quartus II software version 4.2, SOPC Builder has a new Component Editor feature, which allows you to create and interface to custom peripherals or external devices. The component editor allows you to easily create SOPC Builder components with multiple master and/or slave ports.
Peripheral Support
This section documents changes to the hardware peripherals included in the Nios II Development Kits.
Mutex peripheral for multiprocessor systems
This release introduces a mutex peripheral and associated drivers for interprocessor coordination. Multi-processor Nios II systems can use one or more mutex peripherals to coordinate activity between processors. For details, see the Mutex Core with Avalon® Interface chapter in the Nios II Processor Reference Handbook.
