Quartus II Software Version 5.1 Critical Issue

Due to a recently discovered issue in Quartus® II software version 5.1, designs that use the encrypted intellectual property cores listed below may fail to compile in Quartus II software or fail functionally in simulation or hardware. The issue is caused by a failure to detect changes to encrypted IP core source files generated by SOPC Builder or IP Toolbench. Quartus II software versions 5.0 and earlier do not have this issue.

IP Cores Affected by This Critical Issue:
  • Nios® II
  • POS-PHY Level 4
  • RapidIOTM
  • SerialLite II
  • SONET/SDH Compiler

How Can This Issue Affect My Design?

It has been identified that the Quartus II software version 5.1 does not properly detect changes to encrypted intellectual property cores including the Nios II embedded processor, POS-PHY Level 4, RapidIO, SerialLite II, and SONET/SDH Compiler cores. This detection failure can cause the Quartus II software compilation to fail during analysis and synthesis or result in hardware or simulation failures within the design logic after a successful compilation.

How Do I Fix This Issue?

Please use the following tables to download the correct software patch for your specific installation. You must have the Quartus II software version 5.1 installed before applying these patches. This problem does not occur for any other versions of the Quartus II software. Table 1 is for subscription users and Table 2 is for Web Edition users.

This issue will be fixed in the Quartus II software version 5.1 service pack 1. Quartus II software version 5.1 service pack 1 will include other features and enhancements, as well.
