Performing Physical Synthesis with the PALACE Software

To perform physical synthesis with the Magma Design Automation PALACE software from within the Quartus II software:

  1. If you have not already done so, Set up the PALACE Working Environment.

  2. Create a new project or open an existing project.

  3. Specify EDA tool settings in the Quartus II software.

  4. To start the PALACE software and perform physical synthesis, on the Processing menu, point to Start and then click Start EDA Physical Synthesis. The Quartus II software runs analysis and synthesis, the Fitter, and the EDA Netlist Writer, and then launches the PALACE software, which performs physical synthesis on the design. The PALACE software generates an optimized <design name>_adt.vqm VQM File in the /<project directory>/physical/palace directory, which the Quartus II software then compiles in the background.

Note: When the Quartus II software compiles the optimized design, it displays the System tab of the Messages window. To view the status of the compilation, click the Processing tab.

  1. To view the optimized design in the Quartus II software:

    1. Close the current project.

    2. Open the project in the /<project directory>/physical/palace directory.

    3. Click Compilation Report.

  2. To compare the resynthesized project with the original project, re-open the project in the original project directory.
