Physical Synthesis Page (Settings Dialog Box)

btnshowall.gif

You open this dialog box by clicking EDA Tool Settings, and then clicking Physical Synthesis in the Settings dialog box.

Allows you to specify an EDA physical synthesis tool.

Specifies the EDA tool you are using for design entry and synthesis; simulation; timing analysis; board-level signal integrity, timing or symbol generation; or physical synthesis.

Scripting Information

Keyword: eda_resynthesis_tool

Settings:  PALACE | Precision Physical | Amplify | "<None>"

*default

Configure the following options when you select PALACE as the physical synthesis tool.

Specifies the optimization effort level for the EDA physical synthesis tool for use when performing physical synthesis on your design. The following options are available:

Setting

Description

Normal, improve fmax

The physical synthesis tool should improve fMAX, at the cost of other optimization techniques. Use this option to get the best possible fMAX.

Low, preserve area

The physical synthesis tool should improve fMAX while preserving the area of the design. Use this option when preserving the area of the design is important.

Scripting Information

Keyword: resynthesis_optimization_effort

Settings:  low | normal

*default

Specifies the level of retiming the physical synthesis tool performs on the design. The following options are available:

Setting

Description

Full, perform retiming on all paths

The physical synthesis tool should perform retiming on all register paths, including paths from non-peripheral to peripheral registers.

Partial, perform retiming on register-to-register paths only

The physical synthesis tool should perform retiming on non-peripheral register-to-register paths only.

Off (may negatively impact fmax)

The physical synthesis tool should not perform retiming, which may reduce fMAX. Use this option to see the effects of performing only physical synthesis on a design.

Scripting Information

Keyword: resynthesis_retiming

Settings:  full | off | core

*default

arrowright.gifPhysical synthesis:

Specifies the physical synthesis algorithms an EDA physical synthesis tool applies. The following options are available:

Setting

Description

Normal, recommended for most designs

Specifies that the physical synthesis tool should use physical synthesis algorithms verified for use with the Quartus II software.

Advanced, may not always produce better results

Specifies that the physical synthesis tool should use any available advanced physical synthesis algorithms, some of which may not have guaranteed performance for use with the Quartus II software.

Scripting Information

Keyword: resynthesis_physical_synthesis

Settings:  advanced | normal

*default

arrowright.gifUse generated physical constraints with the Quartus II software:

Turning on this option instructs the Quartus II software to use the physical constraints the physical synthesis tool generates when recompiling the optimized design.

Scripting Information

Keyword: use_generated_physical_constraints

Settings:  on | off

*default
