Setting Up the ModelSim Working Environment

To set up the Mentor Graphics ModelSim PE or SE working environment:

  1. Make sure you have installed the following versions of the Quartus II software and the ModelSim software:

  2. ModelSim

    Altera

Mentor Graphics ModelSim PE or SE (non-OEM) version 6.1g

    Quartus II
    version 8.0

This version of the ModelSim software supports all Altera devices supported by the Quartus II software.

Note: The Quartus II Software Release Notes are available on the Altera website and provide up-to-date information on which versions of Mentor Graphics applications the current version of the Quartus II software supports. The Quartus II readme.txt file provides information on installation and operating requirements. You should read the Release Notes and readme.txt file before installing the Quartus II software. After installation, you can open the Release Notes and readme.txt file from the Quartus II Help menu.

  1. To run an EDA design entry/synthesis, simulation, or timing analysis tool automatically from the Quartus II software using the NativeLink feature, you must specify the location of executable files for third party EDA tools by clicking Options on the Tools menu, and then clicking EDA Tool Options.

  1. To continue with the ModelSim simulation flow, set up a project with the ModelSim software.
