Altera's DSP Design Flow Overview

Altera's digital signal processing (DSP) design flow allows system developers to take full advantage of the price/performance benefits of Altera® FPGAs. This industry-leading design flow also provides the flexibility and scalability required for the next generation of high-performance DSP applications.
Altera DSP Design Flow
Altera's suite of development tools, including DSP Builder, SOPC Builder, and Quartus® II software, provides a comprehensive design platform that allows you to reap the benefits of programmable logic, whether you're constructing an FPGA coprocessor or a dedicated DSP hardware architecture.
Additionally, Altera and its partners supply a portfolio of DSP intellectual property (IP) solutions that can be incorporated into a wide range of video and image processing and high-speed digital communications applications.
Figure 1. Altera DSP Design Flow Overview

The Altera DSP Builder is a DSP development tool that connects Simulink with Altera's industry-leading Quartus II development software. DSP Builder provides a seamless design flow in which designers perform algorithmic design in the MATLAB software and system integration in the Simulink software, and then port the design to hardware description language (HDL) files for use in the Quartus II software.
The DSP Builder tool is tightly integrated with the SOPC Builder tool, allowing you to build systems that incorporate Simulink designs along with Altera embedded processors and IP cores. Altera's design flow is easy and intuitive for designers who do not have extensive experience using programmable logic design software. Third parties offering design entry tools targeting Altera FPGAs include Celoxica, Mentor Graphics®, and Synplicity.
