Is the Excalibur code compressed when I use the Quartus II software to generate a boot-from-flash image?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Yes. The makeprogfile utility compresses the code by default when you choose the boot from flash option. The boot loader uncompresses the code while configuring the ARM stripe.

There is a -nc option in the makeprogfile utility to choose not to compress the boot data in the boot data file. For more information on the ARM booting process, see AN 187: Excalibur Solutions - Booting ARM-Based Devices.
