How do I set the IOE Programmable Delay values as listed in the device datasheet in the Quartus II software?

Description

The IOE Programmable Delay is presented in the respective device Datasheet in table form for devices that support IOE programmable delays. There are two methods to set the IOE Programmable Delay, through the Assignment Editor or the Resource Property Editor in the Quartus® II software.

  1. Assignment Editor
    1. In Assignment Editor, under Assignment Name column, select the delay parameter (e.g. D2 Delay),
    2. Under the Value column, select the delay level. Refer to the IOE Programmable Delay table, Available Settings for each device on the available level settings.
    3. Make sure the Enable value is Yes.

  1. Resource Property Editor
    1. Select the delay parameter from the Resource Property Editor diagram,
    2. Right click on the delay parameter and the available delay level and value will be display,
    3. Click on the desired delay level to select.

Note that for the minimum offset (when Value ‘0’ is selected in the Assignment Editor), there is an intrinsic delay value. This intrinsic delay value is not included in delay numbers published in the IOE Programmable Delay table in device Datasheet. For more accurate values, you can refer to the values available in the Resource Property Editor(Figure 2).

The examples below show how to set the IOE Programmable Delay with Assignment Editor and Resource Property Editor.

Figure 1. shows an example on how to setting the delay parameter D2 to value of ‘4’ with Assignment Editor.

A similar setting is achievable using Resource Property Editor (Figure 2), by selecting level ‘4’ from the pop-up menu. The delay value for each level is shown in the Resource Property Editor. The device intrinsic delay is included in those values.

Further details which apply for all device families that support IOE programmable delays can be found in AN 474: Implementing Stratix® III Programmable I/O Delay Settings in the Quartus II Software (PDF).
