Error (175020): Illegal constraint of HSSI PMA Aux. block to the region (<x,y coordinates>) to (<x,y coordinates>): no valid locations in region

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software version 13.0 and earlier, you may see this error during the Fitter if you select a smaller device as a  migration device. This error occurs because the Quartus II software does not correctly restrict transceiver calibration resources.

For example, if your design targets the Stratix® V device 5SGXA9, the bottom calibration block can control contiguous 18 transceiver channels from bottom to top. The bottom calibration block of the 5SGXA7 device can control only contiguous 12 transceiver channels. If you use the 5SGXA9 device as your target device and select the 5SGXA7 as a migration device, the Quartus II software does not correctly restrict the maximum transceiver channel number controlled by calibration block.

Resolution

To avoid this problem, compile your design targeting the smaller device to make sure your design can fit. If your calibration block cannot reach your target transceiver channels, you need to use additional transceiver reconfiguration controller for these channels.

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Quartus II software.
