How do I specify command-line options for the GNU compiler when using the Nios®-build script from the command line?

Description Altera recommends that you create a Makefile when you need different command line options during software development.

If you use the Nios-build script, you do not need to create a new Makefile for each Nios core change (i.e., one core with a multiplier and one without). Nios-build looks over your Nios microprocessor settings from within your Quartus® II project and automatically decides the list of command line options. Non-hardware dependant options (i.e., optimizations level) are always at an assumed default value. Your custom Makefile can call these items out for you.
