Why do I see JTAG communication produce incorrect result or JTAG communication error?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software version 12.0, debug tools that depend on JTAG communication may produce incorrect results or JTAG communication errors. Affected debug tools include the SignalTap™ II Logic Analyzer, In-System Sources and Probes, and Memory Content Editor.

    Resolution

For designs targeting Stratix® V, Arria® V, or Cyclone® V devices, a device patch is available to fix this and other problems in the Quartus II software. See the related solution below, to download and install the latest device patch for Stratix V, Arria V, or Cyclone V devices.

For designs targeting other devices, a patch is available to fix this problem in the Quartus II software version 12.0. Download and install patch 0.13 from the appropriate link below. If the problem is not resolved with this patch, use the tools from earlier version of the Quartus II software. No recompilation is needed as this pertains to JTAG communication only.

This problem is fixed beginning with the Quartus II software version 12.0 SP1.
