Why cannot I use the assembly instruction WRCTL IENABLE to disable interrupts for Nios II/f processor core?

Environment

  • Nios® II Processor
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description This problem does not affect the Nios II/s and Nios II/e processor cores. This problem has been fixed in Nios II 1.1 by adding some new logic to the Nios II/f core.

In Nios II 1.0 and 1.01, sending a WRCTL IENABLE command just after interrupts are enabled results in a one clock cycle window where interrupts may still be enabled.
