Enclustra’s cost optimized Mercury CA1 FPGA module is based on a Altera Cyclone IV FPGA and equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet and a High-Speed USB 2.0 interface. The versatile module is ideally suitable for signal processing, Ethernet streaming as well as test & measurement applications. A reference design of a SoPC system including a 32-bit NIOS II soft-core processor is available free of charge. At the heart of the Mercury CA1 is an Altera Cyclone IV E FPGA containing 75,408 logic elements, 305 block RAMs and 200 multipliers. A smaller FPGA with 28,848 logic elements is also available. The module contains 128 MByte of DDR2 SDRAM memory, 16 MByte of Flash, a real-time-clock and runs off a single 5-15 V power supply voltage. The 148 user I/Os pins are available on two 168 pin Hirose FX10 connectors. Up to 24 differential pairs are supported. The FTDI High-Speed USB Device interface enables the communication between host PC and FPGA in UART, SPI, I2C or synchronous FIFO modes. The second port supports configuring the FPGA and the flash memory. Drivers for Windows and Linux are available. The compact form factor (56 x 54 mm) enables space saving hardware designs. The user-accessible 3.3 V and 2.5 V power rails simplify the integration of the module into the final product. With this modular approach, an application-specific carrier board can usually be implemented on 4 layers and with a minimum number of components, thus reducing engineering and production costs.
