DisplayPort Sink Secondary Decoder Starts Decoding SDP Before Descrambler Locks

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT

    Critical Issue

    Description

The DisplayPort sink starts decoding secondary data packet (SDP) before the descrambler locks. This issue may occur if the DisplayPort source is sending SDP right after Link Training, before it sends the first scrambler reset (SR). In this case, the DisplayPort sink\'s descrambler is not locked until it receives the first SR but the secondary decoder already starts processing the received SDP.

This issue causes the DisplayPort sink to produce corrupted secondary packet, which may cause errors, such as ECC error, to the whole system.

    Resolution

There is no workaround for this issue. Ignore the early secondary packet from the DisplayPort sink for a period of time (minimum 30 ms) after Link Training.

This issue will be fixed in a future version of the DisplayPort IP core.
