Common Questions
Use programmable logic when parallel interfaces, video throughput or bounded timing exceed the MCU's practical capabilities. An MCU may be simpler for light control workloads; compare total power, component count, tooling and product volume.
FPGA display processing typically handles streaming functions such as format conversion, scaling and interface timing. GPU rendering generates graphics through a different software and compute workflow; choose the architecture according to the actual visual workload.
Start with active pixels per frame, frames per second and bits per pixel, then account for each memory read and write. Include blanking or transport overhead where applicable and sustained controller efficiency when sizing the memory path.
Check the model's operators, precision, target FPGA and tool release before choosing the inference flow. Validate accuracy after conversion and include camera preprocessing, buffering and output transfer in the performance budget.
Compare measured rail currents with active and idle operating modes, clock activity and I/O loads. Check unused clocks, unnecessary toggling and regulator losses before assuming the selected FPGA family alone determines battery life.
