Common Questions
Real-time control must meet bounded acquisition-to-action deadlines, while analytics can tolerate different timing and compute patterns. Specify deadlines per function before deciding which paths require dedicated hardware and which can run in software.
Move I/O or networking into FPGA hardware when parallel channels, protocol customization or bounded timing justify it. Keep suitable control logic on the PLC CPU and compare integration complexity, lifecycle and total system cost.
Define the maximum permitted delay from sensor acquisition through computation to actuation, including interfaces and buffering. Verify worst-case timing under concurrent traffic and fault conditions rather than using a generic control-frequency figure.
A data package supports the safety case for specified components and use conditions. The machine still needs hazard analysis, architecture, diagnostic coverage, verification and validation appropriate to its required safety functions.
Combine them when the supported processor, I/O, timing and isolation architecture meet the machine requirements. Validate the software PLC and hardware motion paths together, including workload interference and required failure responses.
