IntelliProp SATA RAID IP Core (IPC-BL109A-RD)

IntelliProp: Experts in Memory and Data Storage IP

Select

The IPC-BL109A-RD SATA RAID Core is a silicon-proven HDL design block that implements RAID 0 (Striping) and Concatenation modes to provide high-performance access to storage media. By distributing data across an even number of SATA drives, the core effectively multiplies system throughput and increases total logical volume capacity.

Engineered for mission-critical applications, the core handles all RAID operations entirely in hardware logic, eliminating the need for complex software drivers or embedded processors.

Technical Highlights: Performance Scaling: Achieves up to 2x performance gains with a minimum of two drives; scalable for 2n drive configurations.

Zero-Firmware Architecture: Executes all command issuing and data distribution in hardware to ensure deterministic, low-latency IOPS.

Flexible Striping: Supports user-controllable stripe sizes ranging from 512 Bytes to 8kB to optimize for specific data workloads.

Flexible Striping: Supports user-controllable stripe sizes ranging from 512 Bytes to 8kB to optimize for specific data workloads.

Broad Compatibility: Fully compliant with SATA Industry Specifications, supporting Gen 1 (1.5Gbps), Gen 2 (3.0Gbps), and Gen 3 (6.0Gbps) speeds with automatic negotiation.

Key Features

  • Hardware-Only RAID 0: High-speed striping and concatenation performed entirely in RTL with no firmware or CPU intervention required.
  • Scalable Throughput: Supports drive counts in multiples of two to significantly increase aggregate read/write speeds.
  • Ultra-Low Latency: Optimized data path ensures minimal overhead between the backend data interface and the SATA storage devices.
  • Configurable Stripe Size: Granular control over striping (512B to 8kB) allows for fine-tuning based on application-specific file sizes.
  • Auto-Speed Negotiation: Automatically synchronizes with connected drives at 1.5, 3.0, or 6.0 Gbps.
  • Multi-Drive Concatenation: Optionally combines multiple physical drives into a single large-capacity logical unit.
  • Low Gate Count: Efficient HDL implementation minimizes FPGA resource utilization (ALMs/LEs).
